Our Favorite Resources 2024

Updated: 3 days ago

I (Erika) love end of the year lists, so every year around this time I reach out to my fellow Waypoint staff members to share some of the resources that have been helpful for growth, discipleship, and encouragement this past year. We hope you find something interesting and useful!

Erika Castiglione

Book:

Loving Your Adult Children: The Heartache of Parenting and the Hope of the Gospel by Gaye Clark

This book examines the fruit of the Spirit in relation to loving and parenting grown children.

Podcast:

Curiously Kaitlyn

This is a thought-provoking podcast where Kaitlyn Schiess invites a theologian to answer a kid's question like "Why did God make the other planets?" or "What will we look like in Heaven?"

Music:

All of My Days by Ellie Holcomb

These seven psalms put to music have been such an encouragement to me this past year!

Peter Frey

Books:

The Party Crasher: How Jesus disrupts politics as usual and redeems are partisan divide by Joshua Butler

- this is a super helpful resource for identifying the idolatries that lay beneath many of our political conflicts and offering pathways forward

A Long Obedience in the Same Direction by Eugene Peterson

- this is a classic that I return to every few years. It’s a refreshing journey through the Psalms of Ascents that brings me back to the calling of everyday faithfulness to Jesus.

The 4 Habits of Joy-filled People by Marcus Warner & Chris Coursey

- I’ve been greatly helped by Jim Wilder’s books integrating brain science and theology. This is built on Wilder's work and is a profound and practical look at the possibility of joy.

Album - Keeper of Days by Jon Guerra

Toni Anderson

Book:

Liturgy of the Ordinary by Tish Harrison Warren

Album:

Sing: Remembering Songs and Sing: Creation Songs by Ellie Holcomb (And also All of My Days which Erika recommended!)

Other:

"My God Is" Cards from Tiny Theologians

We've been doing these cards with Edie with hand motions to teach her about God's character. Each week we learn and practice a new card and it has been amazing to see how she is actually retaining them.

Caleb Thomas

Website:

Great website with weekly emails about how to biblically parent teenagers.

The Pour Over - https://thepourover.org/

Good website with weekly email summaries of US and some world news with biblical reminders and scriptural connections. Also available via podcast.

Music:

This playlist brings in Christian artists of different backgrounds whose songs have helped me fix my eyes on Jesus in 2024.

Precious Memories by Alan Jackson

A collection of some awesome hymns sung by country legend Alan Jackson.

Melody Franco

Music:

MATIN: Rest by Jess Ray

Just so lovely. These songs were both some of my words to God and some of God's words to me in this past year.

Podcast:

With the Perrys

Bible teacher Jackie Hill Perry and apologist Preston Perry have conversations about theology, culture, and life in general (you will also have a laugh or two!).

App:

Reimagining the Examen

Each day the app guides you through a prayer of examen to reflect on your past day with God. Carla Love introduced my community group to this resource, and I've been using it most evenings since.

James Shafto

Book: The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt

Podcast: Order of the Mustard Seed Podcast

Music: “Let all mortal flesh keep silent” —> Various Versions

App: Dwell Bible Audio app

Lawrence Yoo

Book-How to Read and Understand the Psalms by Bruce K. Waltke and Fred G. Zaspel

Danny Castiglione

Books:

All My Knotted-Up Life: A Memoir by Beth Moore-A powerful story of the faithfulness of God despite the darkness and brokenness of the world.

Foreign Studies by Shusaku Endo-Fascinating semibiographical fiction book by a mid-20th century Japanese scholar exploring some of the differences between Christians in East Asia and how they see the West.

A Concise Guide to Reading the New Testament by David R. Nienhuis-An outstanding succinct overview of the New Testament.

“From Whom All Blessings Flow” (Doxology)-Hillsong Worship

“O Praise the Name (Anastasis)” Live-Hillsong Worship

“Quasimodo”-Lifehouse
