How to Pray for a High-Schooler

Updated: May 25, 2021

When I was younger I used to watch High School Musical all the time. I thought high school was going to be so much fun, but guess what? I’m the only one who breaks into spontaneous song, and there are no choreographed dances that everyone magically knows! It’s not that it’s terrible; it’s just harder than I thought it would be.

Since I’ve been at Waypoint, I have learned how to pray for different people and needs, so, in the same way, I would like to ask you to pray for high-schoolers. Here are a few ideas of how to pray:

Pray for Our Stress

Between tests, projects, homework, deadlines, extra-curricular activities, and the pressure to succeed, we can feel overwhelmed.

Pray for Our Relationships with Our Families

Some high-schoolers (and some includes me) tend to take out their frustration on their families. It can be hard to navigate being under your parents’ authority, while feeling more like an adult. It’s annoying to need your parents’ help but to not necessarily always want it.

Pray for Our Relationships with Our Friends

As a Christian in high school, it’s hard to find friends who share the same values. I want to be a light to non-Christians, but I also need friends who encourage me to follow Christ.

Pray for Our Youth Group

Youth groups are very important for high-schoolers because they are a way to connect with people who are going through the same things as you and who have the same goal as you: to follow God and grow nearer to Him. Please pray that the Waypoint youth group continues to grow, that we can have a close community, and that we can reach out to others. Many adults have told me that they became Christians because someone invited them to a youth group!

Pray for Our Relationships with God

My parents have always told me that the most important thing in my life is my relationship with God. If that is true, then the most important prayer you could pray for a high-schooler (or anyone), is for their relationship with God.

Thank you for your prayers!

You can support the youth group by joining us for Friday Night Live on February 22. Expect a delicious dinner, hilarious skits, and great music. Tickets are $10 at the door and all proceeds will go to our summer mission trip in Panama City, Florida, where we will assist in Hurricane relief.
